Lecturer in Classics at Durham University
The Department of Classics and Ancient History is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified candidate to a non-fixed term Lectureship in Classics. The post is open to applicants with research specialisms in any area of classical studies. Candidates are expected to make a strong case for complementing and/or developing existing areas of research excellence in the Department and the University.
The successful applicant will be expected to enhance Durham’s international reputation as a leading centre for the study of the ancient world. He or she will produce publications of international significance in a field which will complement and/or develop the Department’s current strengths in Greek and Roman literature, Ancient Philosophy, and Ancient History. S/he will be expected to contribute to the intellectual life of either or both of our interdisciplinary research centres: the Centre for the Study of the Ancient Mediterranean and the Near East, and the Durham Centre for Classical Reception. S/he will be expected to engage with research projects in the Department and the University, through contributions to seminars and collaborative work with colleagues in Classics and Ancient History, and in other departments as appropriate.The successful applicant will contribute to research-led teaching at all levels, and will be expected to make a contribution to the teaching of both Latin and ancient Greek. He or she will also be required to act as examiner at all levels, play an active role in the day-to-day running of the Department, and undertake such administrative duties in the Department and the University as will be required.
