Three 3-year scholarships to complete a PhD in Philosophy at Groningen
The Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Groningen offer three three-year scholarships to complete a PhD in Philosophy. Applications are invited from high quality prospective PhD students with a good fit with the research specialisms and expertise of our academic staff (including theoretical philosophy, ethics and politics and history of Philosophy). Information about the Faculty of Philosophy and our staff can be found on the Faculty website .
In addition to these three PhD scholarships for external candidates, two internal candidates from our Research Master programme will also receive scholarships to start their PhD studies at the same time.
Candidates should have completed a master’s degree in Philosophy, preferably a two-year research master or equivalent, by 1 September 2017. They should have an excellent academic record, a very good command of English, and strong academic writing skills.
The successful candidates will receive a grant of €1,700 per month, with wage tax and social insurance premiums already deducted. They will be required to be resident in Groningen and will be enrolled in the Graduate School of Philosophy. They will initially be offered a scholarship of one year; prolongation of the scholarship for a further two years is contingent on sufficient progress in the first year.
The preferred starting date is September 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.
