Philosophical Papyri: A Journal of Ancient Philosophy and the Papyrological Tradition

This new journal will be published by Fabrizio Serra Editore and is intended to feature both new editions of philosophical papyri and studies on the topic. 

As you know, there has been – and continues to be – little communication between Herculaneum and Graeco-Egyptian papyrology. The research on philosophical papyri from Herculaneum and that on Graeco-Egyptian ones have always been artificially separated, as though these were two essentially different kinds of papyri. 

Philosophical Papyri is the first scholarly journal entirely devoted to philosophical papyri as such. The journal, in a 31.5 x 21.5 cm format, will be issued on a yearly basis and will be peer-reviewed according to the currently accepted best practices. It will be divided into three sections respectively devoted to Critical Editions, Essays, and Discussions. The submission of manuscripts on philosophical papyri, intended also on a broader sense, is welcome.

Contributions will be accepted in English, French, German, Latin, and Italian. The deadline for contributions to the first issue (1, 2023) is September 30, 2022. Manuscripts should be sent to philosophicalpapyri@libraweb.net.
